Mole Valley District Council Conservative Group Leader James Friend has been keeping up the pressure on the District Council to take a wider view on what we can achieve locally to tackle climate change. As District Councillor, James recently submitted a motion designed to get the Council to look beyond it’s own buildings for opportunities to reduce Carbon emissions and, for example, to work with community groups to incentivise tree planting.
James said “If we are serious about this country becoming Carbon Neutral then places like Mole Valley must lead the way. If I am lucky enough to be re-elected to serve Westcott again in May this year, I will continue to:
- Fight for our local environment, using all our assets to reduce the impact of our lives on our planet
- Reject inappropriate development on our green spaces and in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so that Westcott remains special for the generations to come
- Seek innovative investment in our town centres to provide affordable homes for local people
James added “Potential election ward boundary changes in 2023 may mean that villages like Westcott have less influence in years to come, so it is vital that we maintain a strong voice at Pippbrook this time around.”
