Mole Valley was given a spring clean last weekend as an army of volunteers “Cleaned for the Queen”, joining the national campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday, to be celebrated in June 2016.
Volunteers from residents’ groups and Mole Valley District Council set out to spruce up areas across the District. The activities, co-ordinated by Mole Valley District Council, were declared a great success, not only for enhancing the look and feel of Mole Valley, but for the additional benefits of volunteering, bringing people together and galvanising community spirit.
Councillor Michelle Watson, Executive Member for Environment said, “This weekend has been very rewarding and a lot of fun! We have active and dedicated residents’ groups throughout Mole Valley and we have been delighted at the amazing response we have had from them and all the partners involved. This weekend builds on our campaign of last year, #cleanmv, targeting flytipping, littering, dog fouling and graffiti.”
Councillor Watson continued, “More than 200 people took part in “Clean for the Queen” in Mole Valley, reaching areas such as the Glory Woods in Dorking, Holmwood Park, Charlwood Village, Leatherhead Underpass and Bookham. We provided 200 sets of litter pickers, high-vis jackets and gloves enabling this activity and distributed 1,000 bin bags. Anyone that wishes to continue the great works of this weekend can contact us for the free advice and litter picking equipment that we offer all year round.”
