Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) is delighted to announce that the winning design for the new play facility at Meadowbank in Dorking has been chosen; from play company, Kompan Ltd. Excited youngsters can look forward to being able to explore a fantastic range of features at the site when the showpiece play facility is completed this July, in time for the summer holidays.
Kompan’s design proved to be the favourite of four dynamic designs which featured in the third and final stage of consultation following the submission of hundreds of voting forms from the public. One of the aspects of the winning design that clearly caught the public’s imagination was that inspiration was taken from local features around the town, including the Dorking cockerel, Box Hill and the River Mole, to create a series of themed play experiences to overjoy the young users.
There will be a strong focus on inclusivity with equipment, such as an inclusive sand table, roundabout, swing and double width side, which will prove exciting to children of all ages and physical ability so that everyone can enjoy playing together. The site will also feature inspiring sensory planting, providing plenty of things for people to touch, smell, hear, see and even eat in and around the playground.
Work on site will begin later in the spring, after the Easter holidays. To keep up to date with the play facility’s progress, and for information about how you will be able to get involved in some planting schemes at the play facility, follow MVDC’s Twitter account @MoleValleyDC, search Mole Valley District Council on Facebook or visit www.molevalley.gov.uk/meadowbankplayground.
Ray Parker, Area Sales Manager at Kompan, said: "I am delighted that MVDC has selected Kompan to build the new play facility at Meadowbank. The design has been based on Dorking themes and will provide a totally unique and inclusive play area for all ages and abilities to enjoy and I can't wait to see the finished result"
Councillor Lucy Botting, Executive Member for Wellbeing, said: “The chosen design is a very worthy winner and it is only by the local community engaging with us and providing feedback throughout the consultation process that the final result will be as spectacular and engaging as it should be. The past two years have proved to be very exciting for play provision in the District, with fantastic new facilities in Bookham and North Holmwood too and ensures we can support and enable people to participate in play and wellbeing activities to help improve the health of children and tackle childhood obesity.”
