The Liberal Democrats' plan to pedestrianise West Street will cause gridlock and traffic chaos in Dorking, impacting residents across Mole Valley.
We've already seen how traffic flow across Mole Valley was impacted when West Street was shut due to a sinkhole previously. There was increased congestion on Ashcombe Road, Vincent Lane, Station Road and South Street in Dorking, and journey times for residents increased, whether travelling by car or by bus. This plan will increase congestion, increase pollution and make journey times across Mole Valley longer.
Send a message to Mole Valley's Liberal Democrat council to stop this ill-considered plan and keep West Street open. Sign our petition and let them know your thoughts today.
Marisa Heath, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesperson for Dorking and Horley says, "Now is not the time to be pedestrianising roads when we should be figuring out first how to reduce the congestion around Dorking and not creating traffic chaos. It is the time to focus fully on supporting struggling businesses and looking at what we can do to keep them going. We know MVDC is struggling financially and actually delivering regeneration has not happened, so let’s get realistic and focus on the things we can do for local business."
