Economic Development
The Liberal Democrat administration have not got a clear strategy to grow the economy in Mole Valley. As a result, businesses have started to move away from the key urban centres of the district in Dorking and Leatherhead, to alternative areas such as Redhill, Guildford, Horsham, and Epsom.
We are in a strong location, being at the heart of Surrey to be in a position to host businesses, but under the current administration, this opportunity has been squandered.
A Conservative administration will deliver a clear strategy to promote Mole Valley as a location for businesses to thrive. We will work with local communities to build facilities in our town and village centres and ensure that our district is a business friendly one.
We will ensure that all of our communities will get the services they need, not the services that the current administration focused on Dorking think they need.
The historic Old Pippbrook House has been neglected and unloved for over a decade. It needs to be put into a community trust or repurposed urgently.
Our Vision for a better Leatherhead
Leatherhead has been neglected by the current administration, who are primarily based in and focused on Dorking. It is the largest town and urban area in our district, and due to its proximity to Junction 9 of the M25 and good transport links with Northeastern Surrey, has the potential to be a destination for shoppers across the region.
It is clear that the current administration’s Transform Leatherhead project has not worked, with hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayer money spent on consultations and lawyers, with no delivery for residents.
A Conservative administration will cancel this failed scheme and work with residents and businesses to introduce a new Town Plan for Leatherhead with a proper redevelopment of the Town Centre as a destination for shopping.
Transparency and listening to residents
The current electoral wards of Mole Valley are not suited to the character of the district, with vast wards that make a mockery of the meaning of local representation.
A Conservative administration will change the electoral cycle to all-out elections every four years and will work with the Local Government Boundary Commission to replace the 2023 Boundary Review wards with smaller wards that represent the communities in Mole Valley far better.
The Liberal Democrat administration of Mole Valley District Council is seen by residents as secretive and avoiding scrutiny. This is evident by the fact that secret meetings and briefings take place. We will hold question times with the public across the whole of Mole Valley, introduce Leader Surgeries where any resident in Mole Valley can meet the Leader of the Council once a month one-on-one to ask any questions they have, and publish regular financial and performance information on services run by the council.
